School Days:
Collegiate Peaks Living Education meets two days per week from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm. During the school day, students begin with a morning meeting as a whole school in which we say a prayer, the pledge of allegiance, a hymn/folksong, and a teaching on a Biblically based habit with a devotion.
The morning academics will then focus on language arts, math, science and nature study and history. The afternoon occupations focus on nature study, handicrafts, art, music and theater. All subjects use living books and experience as opposed to facts and texts. Students have time for free play during recess and always enjoy outdoor adventures during nature study.
CPLE follows the Charlotte Mason Institute’s curriculum known as Alveary. Alveary is a complete and comprehensive curriculum and teacher training program. Our aim is to provide a robust and modern course of study that is both true to Charlotte Mason’s model of education and relevant for 21st-century students.
We work our schedule to allow our students time to play, socialize, and move while also training them to give good attention to short lessons in order to maximize their learning.
Home Days:
The other three days of the week are spent at home, focusing at a minimum on literacy and math skills. By using our curriculum and instructions, we can give parents the focus and work their children need to complete on home days. This minimizes parent preparation and allows the parent to focus on relationships and teachable moments. There is flexibility on home days in that parents can customize their lessons to fit their families needs. Home days give parents a chance to be involved in their child's education, tailor the lessons to their child's needs, and help provide continuity between school and home days while still having the support of our learning community.
For kindergartners, we suggest simply enjoying good books, studying other topics you and your child enjoy, and playing outside.
